Author Biographies

Frank A. DiRenno

Frank DiRenno is a senior Biology major and History minor in the College of Arts & Sciences. He is interested in using scientific techniques to answer historical questions, focusing his research interests in the fields of bioarchaeology and paleopathology. He is currently using isotope analysis to study the geographic origins of historic Italian populations for his senior honors thesis. Outside of class, he has taught health education classes through Peer Health Exchange and plays alto saxophone for the Boston College Pep Band.

Tate Krasner

Tate Krasner is a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences from Charlotte, NC, majoring in International Studies and minoring in Chinese and Russian. His primary interests include conflict resolution, global security, peacekeeping, and ethics. He has served as a research assistant for Professor Kenneth Himes, focusing on the ethics of targeted killing and drone warfare, and he has completed independent research on Chinese unmanned aerial vehicles and Asia-Pacific security at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore. Additionally, Krasner serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief for Al-Noor and as a Clough Junior Fellow.

Samantha Pinsak

Samantha Pinsak is a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in History and Economics. Her paper was written for Professor Ross’s “Women of the Renaissance” (H300) course. Aside from writing long papers, she enjoys singing in BC’s Liturgy Arts Group, tutoring through the Neighborhood Center, and is excited to start her new role as a Health Coach through the Office of Health Promotion! She recently participated in a Maya archaeological dig in northern Belize, and plans on working for a non-governmental organization in Switzerland for the Spring of 2015.

Missa Sangimino

Missa Sangimino is an English major in the class of 2015. After studying abroad at Kings College London and interning with the Fulbright Commission, Sangimino completed an independent research project with Professor Greene on financial regulation, analyzing the history and impact of the Volcker Rule during the spring of 2014. Sangimino is currently undertaking an Honors Thesis, analyzing female representation in mafia narratives, and will be continuing as a Teaching Assistant in the Business Law department of the Carroll School of Management. She is also a member of the BC Cycling Team, the Arrupe Nicaragua Program, the English Association, and Peer Health Exchange.

Margaret Scollan

Margaret Scollan was a member of the class of 2014, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a minor in History. She is interested in archaeological science, an interdisciplinary field tying together biology, chemistry, archaeology, and history. She is pursuing her Masters of Science in Archaeological Science at Durham University, United Kingdom (‘15). Maggie is an alumna of the Boston College Presidential Scholars Program, a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, and was selected as a 2014 Fulbright Finalist. “Nicosian Diets and Daily Life” is an abridged version of her Honors senior thesis.

Stacia Vladimirova

Stacia Vladimirova is a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in Political Science with a double minor in Economics and Sociology. She is a member of the Boston College chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society and Political Science Honors Program. Her primary interests include Russian and U.S. foreign policy, as well as energy and environmental policy. Her interest in the process and consequences of globalization was developed while studying abroad in Russia during a gap year, and is a driving force in her academic and personal interests.
