Author Biographies

Brendon Anderson

Brendon Anderson is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Ethics and Social Justice. This article was written for Professor O'Neill's class, Politics of Northern Ireland 1921-Present. Brendon's interests include law, immigration, Irish studies, and social justice. He is also a part of the A&S Honors Program and a member of 4Boston, Arrupe, and the Irish Society.

Emily Simon

Emily Simon is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors at Boston College. She is pursuing a major in English and is a prospective Psychoanalytic Studies minor. Her paper was written for Lori Harrison-Kahan's course Making and Re-Making Americans: Race, Sex, and Gender in American Literature and Film, and it reflects her passion for Modernist literature and literary theory. Emily was born in New Orleans, Louisiana but attended high school at the American School of Kuwait, to which she attributes her enthusiasm for education, cultural theory, and maintaining an open, global perspective. Her love for the written word is evident in her extracurricular activiites: she is currently the Managing Editor for Elements and serves on the editorial board for Stylus, the literary magazine at Boston College. She hopes to continue this devotion to literature by attending graduate school and seeking a career in higher education and literary research.

Andrew Abbate

Andrew Abbate is a senior with extensive research experience in chemistry and human physiology. His current interests include, but are not limited to, sports supplementation, hormonal modulation, and neuro optimization. Andy specializes in biomedical writing and research. His goals are to research and develop treatments for the maximization of human performance and health.

Matt Farnum

Matt Farnum is a sophomore in the College of Arts nad Sciences from Oxford, Maine. He is a History major and Philosophy mionr. he has spent the past two years working for the Boston College football team as a video manager and is a member of the Boston College Buddhist Club. He intends to investigate musical and artistic interests in his remaining two years at Boston College. Inspiration for his paper stems from Professor Thomas Dodman, who has encouraged him to explore paths untrodden in history.

Han-sam Lee

Han-Sam Lee is a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences and was born in Madison, Wisconsin. She is an Islamic Civilization and Societies major, working on her senior thesis concerning nationalism in Lebanon. Her article on South Korean economic policy was written during her time abroad at Sciences Po-Paris, where she received an exchange program certificate in economics. She hopes to serve in the Peace Corps after graduation and is working on attaining a TESOL certificate. After serving, she hopes to contineu her studies at the American University of Beirut. Her interests outside of academics include French and Italian language, German culture, fashion, and traveling.

Sean Keeley

Sean Keeley is a sophomore at Boston College majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Political Science. His article was the result of a three-week independent research project in Paris generously funded by an Advanced Study Grant, which allowed him to explore two of his strongest interests: French and classic film. On campus, Sean serves as the Arts & Review editor for The Heights and is studying Russian in the hopes of studying abroad in St. Petersburg nex year. He dedicates his article to his Parisian hosts, Claudine and Thibault Guilhem, in gratitude for their hospitable welcome and continued cross-cultural friendship, and in the sincere hope that he may return to Paris soon.
