Chinese Students, National Interest, and Geopolitics in the Philippines

Abstract

National interest discourse securitizes academic mobility by transforming international students into geopolitical proxies. By analyzing the Philippine debate over Chinese students near US–Philippine military sites, this article demonstrates how securitization rhetoric legitimizes state surveillance regimes, producing the very threats it claims to address.
