Abstract

Driven to become more economically competitive, some national and state governments seek to
develop their local capacity with branch campuses, and the example of Abu Dhabi -- particularly New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) -- is instructive in how de facto research capacity at such institutions may be measured.

Jason E. Lane is chair of the Department of Educational Policy and
Leadership at the State University of New York at Albany, US, as well
as the codirector of the Cross-Border Education Research Team.

Hans Pohl

Hans Pohl is program director at the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT) and a research fellow with the Cross-Border Education Research Team.
