Victorian Women Detectives: The Forgotten Sleuths

Abstract

This paper argues for the importance of the female detective in the context of Victorian Britain. Specifically, it asserts that the emerging New Woman movement and the Jack the Ripper murders opened the field for female detectives in ways that had previously been impossible.
