About the Journal

Focus and Scope

International Higher Education (IHE) publishes insightful, informed, and high-quality commentary and analysis on trends and issues of importance to higher education systems, institutions, and stakeholders around the world. Each edition also includes titles of new books and other publications of relevance to the global higher education community.

IHE covers an extensive array of topics and is interested in all geographic regions. Our aim is to expose readers to a broad range of issues and concerns facing contemporary higher education, and to provide timely, accurate, and insighful analyses of key higher education developments across a diverse global context.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted for consideration to International Higher Education are subject to review by the editor. Articles are evaluated on the basis of their timeliness, originality, quality of analysis, and clarity of expression.

Publication Frequency

International Higher Education is a quarterly publication.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Sources of Support

In its early years, International Higher Education (IHE) received support from the Ford Foundation, enabling its initial launch and growth. The publication and free dissemination of IHE has also been made possible over the years thanks to generous financial support from the Carnegie Corporation and valuable technical assistance from the Boston College libraries. The leadership of Boston College, as well as the Lynch School of Education and Human Development, have also provided crucial support since the inception of the Center for International Higher Education.

Journal History

International Higher Education (IHE) was launched by the Boston College Center for International Higher Education in Spring 1995. Since that time, it has consistently produced four issues per year, under the guidance of its founding editor, Dr. Philip G. Altbach.

From January 2020 on IHE will be published by DUZ Academic Publishers, Berlin.
