ANIMACIÓN, MEMORIA Y ACTIVISMO EN 30 AÑOS DE OSCURIDAD (2011)

Abstract

30 Years of Darkness (2011) is a documentary about the “moles” of the Spanish dictatorship. It is centered on Manuel Cortés, mayor of Mijas at the time of the military uprising in Morocco, who spent 30 years hiding inside his home. This article explains the multiple functions that animation plays in the film. Through this analysis, it is shown that one of the most important functions of the animation is the vindication of the role of testimonies in the construction of “history.” The article also analyzes how the documentary, thanks to the use of animation, is part of the dialogue between memory and post-memory of the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship. This analysis is also connected with the activist nature of the documentary in its production, distribution, and exhibition stages.

RESUMEN

30 años de oscuridad (2011) es un documental sobre los “topos” de la dictadura española centrado en la figura de Manuel Cortés, alcalde de Mijas en el momento del alzamiento militar en Marruecos, que estuvo 30 años escondido en su casa. El presente artículo explica las múltiples funciones que la animación tiene en el largometraje. Mediante este análisis se demuestra que una de las funciones más importantes de la parte animada es la reivindicación del testimonio como parte esencial de la construcción de la “historia”. El artículo analiza también cómo el documental, gracias al uso de la ilustración animada, se inscribe en el diálogo de la memoria y de la post-memoria de la guerra civil española y de la dictadura. Asimismo, el análisis se conecta con la naturaleza activista del documental tanto en la fase de producción, como en las fases de distribución y exhibición.
