A Quiet Form of Regionalism
Northeast Asia’s Emerging Knowledge Space
Abstract
This article examines scientific collaboration among China, Japan, and South Korea over the past 25 years in the absence of formal institutional integration. Based on Web of Science data, it finds sustained growth in trilateral coauthorship, higher citation impact for joint publications, and increasing diversification beyond STEM fields. Despite geopolitical tensions, collaboration continues to deepen, demonstrating increased regional activity driven by academic networks rather than political structures.Downloads
